Part-Time Staff Association Meeting                                                                        March 15, 2018

Minutes                                                                                                                      1:00-2:00 PM

 

1.       Welcome & Introductions

Members Present: Sarah Jarrett, Mike Danos, Venus Hamlett, Michel Mavinga, Linda Roberts, Kervinie Alexander, and guest: Michael Farris.  Absent: Jennifer Onuffer (Vice-Chair)

 

Guest Speakers, “What’s What”

Michael Farris – Graduation and Enrollment updates.  Michael provided an overview of the graduation ceremony on May 10 and iterated that they need lots of help to make this event happen.  There is a rehearsal the day before and the event day needs start around at 1:00 pm.  Assisting with graduation should be considered paid time.  Talk with your supervisor to confirm you have available hours within the CVCC budget year that runs from July 1- June 30 each year.  If you have missed any regularly scheduled days due to snow, vacation, illness, etc., this might be a great opportunity to get some of those back.  There are a variety of ways to help and it is a fun and exciting day for our students as they celebrate their accomplishments.  If interested in helping with graduation, contact Tammy Johnson.  He also shared a brief outline of the programs within his area, including financial aid, admissions, recruitment, and dual enrollment.

 

2. Review & Approval of Minutes from meeting on 2/1/18

Mike moved and Kervinie seconded the motion to approve the minutes as written.

 

3. Treasurer’s Report

No change since the last meeting.  Bank balance remains at $369.49 and our local funds balance is now $57.13 after food expenses for today’s meeting.

 

4. Committee Reports (Sarah)


·         President’s Cabinet (Sarah)

Discussed that a memo will be forthcoming from HR to supervisors that clarifies how part-time hours work, make-ups, how adjunct teaching affects hours, etc. 

·         Cultural Diversity (OPEN)

·         Social Events (Venus & Michel)

Next meeting will be on Tuesday, March 27 at 1:00 PM.

·         E2IT (Mike)

Committee is still exploring pay to print and how to make this work at CVCC.

·         Employee Recognition (Mary, Donna, OPEN)

·         Facilities and Finance (Kervinie)

LED lighting project is complete in 2500 block.  Merritt boiler should be replaced in April or May.  They are reviewing new options for building cleaning services after concerns about current vendor.

·         Professional Development (Sarah)

Professional Development opportunity on encouraging student empathy will be held on March 30.  This is a free event sponsored by the VCCS and all staff are welcome to participate.  Register by March 23—see your email from Muriel Mickles for details.  Mini-Convocation was held over spring break.  Ran out of time to discuss.

·         PR and Marketing (Mike, Kris?)

Still reviewing Social Media policy.

·         Financial Aid Appeals (Rosaria)

5. Old Business

 

Don’t forget to apply for Professional Development funds.  This includes professional organization memberships, conferences, etc.  Be sure and read emails from “Professional Development” to stay in the loop on deadlines and opportunities.

6. New Business

Budget Committee volunteer – short term assignment; just a couple of meetings; primarily review outside of meeting

 

Outstanding Faculty Award committee volunteer needed – short term assignment; primarily by email

 

Wednesday, April 4 for Pizza sale fundraiser is available.  Do we want to do this?  Planning needed.

Yes, we will be holding a Pizza Sale fundraiser on Wednesday, April 4 from 10:30-1:30.  All proceeds will benefit the CVCC Educational Foundation, with 50% going to the Student Emergency Fund and 50% going to the Book Fund.  Part-time staff will be needed to assist with pizza sale shifts and sending in baked goods.  Sarah will send out a sign-up genius about this event and will confirm with Al with Vito’s and with Deanne for the Student Center.
