Dr. Lofaso called the meeting to order.

Ms. Velez discussed the upcoming meeting schedule.  May 8 will be the last meeting.  Communication will be maintained by e-mail over the summer and meetings will be held as needed.  Sub-committees will also continue to meet as needed.

Ms. Velez provided information about upcoming events where the QEP will be promoted:

·         Friday, April 25—Student Appreciation Picnic

·         Tuesday, April 29—1pm Classified Staff followed by Faculty Association

The Committee discussed the temporary location for the Writing Center.  Room 3207 is available and will be toured by Committee members.

The Committee discussed the five-year plan and estimates for budgeting throughout the process.  An estimate of the number of tutoring hours will be used to budget tutoring personnel.  In addition to release time for QEP co-directors, Mr. Sandidge recommended full-time administrative support in year one for the student success support to assist with additional scheduling needs for the increase in tutoring services.  Ms. Adams and Dr. Mickles agreed that the position would support the implementation of the additional services.  A part-time Writing Center Director will be included in the year one budget in the form of release time by an existing faculty member.  The Humanities and Social Sciences Division will work to identify the faculty member who best meets the qualifications of the job description.  Year two will include an increase in personnel from a part-time student success center director to full-time.

Mr. Sandidge requested additional information to proceed with the creation of the budget for the five-year plan.  He would like estimates on space needs, equipment, furniture, and fixtures.

Ms. Ogden provided an update on potential lead evaluators.  One has been identified and agreed to be nominated and Dr. Lofaso has contacted a second potential evaluator.

Mr. Riley shared an update from the Marketing sub-committee.  QEP sponsored the Cougar Feud, a Family Feud style contest between the Student Ambassadors and the Student Government Association.  The event was well attended and provided an opportunity to continue to communicate with students about the QEP.  A highlight of the event was a “commercial break” featuring Ed McGee reading hilarious examples of mistakes in grammar and writing.   The Student Ambassadors won, claiming the Cougar Cup.

The meeting adjourned at 1:45 p.m.
