Dr. Lofaso called the meeting to order.
Ms. Velez discussed the upcoming meeting schedule. May 8 will be the last meeting. Communication will be maintained by e-mail
over the summer and meetings will be held as needed. Sub-committees will also continue to meet as
Ms. Velez provided information about upcoming events where the QEP
will be promoted:
Friday, April 25—Student Appreciation Picnic
Tuesday, April 29—1pm Classified Staff followed by Faculty
The Committee discussed the temporary location for the Writing
Center. Room 3207 is available and will
be toured by Committee members.
The Committee discussed the five-year plan and estimates for
budgeting throughout the process. An
estimate of the number of tutoring hours will be used to budget tutoring personnel. In addition to release time for QEP
co-directors, Mr. Sandidge recommended full-time administrative support in year
one for the student success support to assist with additional scheduling needs
for the increase in tutoring services.
Ms. Adams and Dr. Mickles agreed that the position would support the
implementation of the additional services.
A part-time Writing Center Director will be included in the year one
budget in the form of release time by an existing faculty member. The Humanities and Social Sciences Division
will work to identify the faculty member who best meets the qualifications of
the job description. Year two will
include an increase in personnel from a part-time student success center
director to full-time.
Mr. Sandidge requested additional information to proceed with the
creation of the budget for the five-year plan.
He would like estimates on space needs, equipment, furniture, and
Ms. Ogden provided an update on potential lead evaluators. One has been identified and agreed to be
nominated and Dr. Lofaso has contacted a second potential evaluator.
Mr. Riley shared an update from the Marketing
sub-committee. QEP sponsored the Cougar Feud, a Family Feud style
contest between the Student Ambassadors and the Student Government
Association. The event was well attended and provided an opportunity to
continue to communicate with students about the QEP. A highlight of the
event was a “commercial break” featuring Ed McGee reading hilarious examples of
mistakes in grammar and writing. The Student Ambassadors won,
claiming the Cougar Cup.
